Waldorf teachers urgently needed

Angelika Lonnemann

I suppose a real Waldorf school could do without these attributes as long as there are Waldorf teachers. Because that's what makes a Waldorf school. For me, who had children at a Waldorf school and at state schools, the unusual thing I noticed about many Waldorf teachers was the special, warm-hearted view of the child as a human being, which obviously went deeper than the view of performance and behaviour in the classroom.

Now we in the Waldorf world have the same problem as the other school authorities, whether local authorities or churches. We need teachers. Waldorf education can only be studied at our Waldorf colleges and seminars, but even there we are currently looking for more students.

But at the same time there is the observation at many schools that Waldorf education is contagious. Many mothers and fathers find their children's school so special that they decide to become Waldorf teachers themselves. This gives hope, because the more Waldorf schools there are, the more new parents with a lot of potential come to the schools. You as a reader of Art of Educating can also help and become a Waldorf ambassador: ask your relatives, friends and neighbours if they would like to become Waldorf teachers.

I wish you a stimulating read and a happy July!
