New Waldorf School in Tasmania

Conditional school registration for operating a K-4 school in 2026 is granted. The class levels will increase each year as the school grows.  The conditions mainly relate to building compliance of the site in Carlton.

The school's name is Nipakawa, which means wave in palawa kani, the language of the Tasmanian Aborigines. It’s pronounced nip-a-cow-wa. The school was given this word to use by the Tasmanian Aboriginal Centre from the palawa kani language they are reconstructing post-invasion. A beautiful small ceremony with some local Palawa elders and community took place to receive the name for the first time.

We feel our name grounds us in place on the beautiful Southern Beaches east of Hobart in Lutruwita/Tasmania and that it represents the waves of learning and rhythms of childhood and nature that our school will embody for our whole community.
