Martyn Rawson Appointed Honorary Professor

Rawson is a renowned scientist who has published numerous groundbreaking publications on Waldorf education. His commitment to a global perspective is reflected in his active involvement in the European Commission's working group on schools, where he plays a key role in shaping the development of European education policy. A central concern of his work is the development of curricula that take into account local, cultural, historical and geographical characteristics as well as supporting the promotion of cosmopolitan and intercultural skills among students.

Rawson has recently completed a book for the publisher Routledge in which he describes the decisive factors for the development of contemporary curricula. The title is «Crafting a Curriculum of Coherence». Using the concept of decolonization, he takes a critical look at Waldorf education of a solely European character and argues for a culturally integrative and culturally adaptive approach.

It is a special feature of Waldorf education that it has spread internationally. Dr Rawson's appointment as Honorary Professor of Waldorf Education in an International Context is part of the internationalization of teacher training at Alanus University. The new International Master of Waldorf Education, which is organized in cooperation with the China Waldorf Forum (CWF), will start in August 2025. The three-year, part-time Master's program with a focus on «Teaching and Research» prepares students for a professional career as teachers at Waldorf schools as well as for academic research work. The program combines online phases with block weeks in China and at Alanus University in Bonn/Alfter.

The Dean of the Department of Education, Prof. Dr. Jost Schieren, who prepared the international course, is convinced: «With Martyn Rawson, we have gained one of the most internationally experienced and recognized experts in Waldorf education. His expertise will significantly enrich the new Master's course.»
