Diabetes says about his life as a slave: «I like it so much. I know what's expected of me. I'm provided for. I don't need to make any decisions. (...) Freedom is dangerous.» Freedom is toil and effort. Those who have it must take responsibility, for themselves and for others. Since 1919, teachers in Waldorf schools have been working together in joint responsibility for the whole. Rudolf Steiner said in his lecture on the eve of the teachers' course that he wanted schools to be «republican in their administration»: «Everyone must be fully responsible themselves.»
