Probably even in the Stone Age, parents had to ask their children to hurry up when the sunset or sabre-toothed cats were approaching. And parents have probably been thinking up games for a long time to banish the dreadful boredom. The philosopher Blaise Pascal noted in the middle of the 17th century: «Nothing is more unbearable to man than complete inactivity [...] Boredom will immediately rise from the bottom of his soul, along with gloom, sadness, sorrow, distress and despair.» In her text, author and Waldorf mother Susanne Bregenzer describes what happens when she expects her children to be bored.
In human cells, scientists find minute processes that explain our internal clock. Rhythm requires recurrence in regularly elapsed time, and rhythm can also be found on a large scale, for example in the recurrence of the proximity of the planets to earth. Our author Nathanael Dreißig presents the current state of research and encourages us to listen to our own rhythms in the body in order to give ourselves and our children strength.
Anne Brockmann spoke to representatives from Windrather Talschule, where the teaching staff have decided to abandon the usual 45-minute schedule. An exciting project! Heidi Käfer takes us into our fast-paced era and asks the social sciences for solutions to the problem of time scarcity. And the answers she finds have a lot to do with Waldorf education.
This issue also contains many other interesting articles about projects at and around Waldorf schools. In Offenburg, two upper school students organized a panel discussion with young politicians at their school. Sven Saar, the publisher of the book Beziehungskunst (Art of Relationships), spoke about current approaches to sex education in a number of schools and describes this. The Waldorf Philharmonic has now been around for 20 years. Laurenz Wolf describes his enthusiasm for this project. Sebastian Knust reports on the very successful first education festival at Hamborn Castle. And Annette Pichler describes how today's anthroposophical curative education needs to be thought about. The occasion is the 100th anniversary of Rudolf Steiner's curative education course.
Ich wünsche Ihnen eine anregende Lektüre und einen laubblattrauschenden Oktober!
