2024 National Science Week Grant for Australian Waldorf School

Traditional Owner and accomplished musician, Uncle Les Huddleston, led an area of learning through Indigenous Knowledge System. Drawing on Indigenous Knowledge Systems in areas of Optics and Acoustics, students participated in the design, material collection, construction and playing of their own didgeridoos and clapsticks.

Milkwood’s Strategic Plan includes a commitment to embed Traditional Knowledge, taught by Aboriginal elders from their community, into all subject areas. In 2024, Milkwood brings a focus to the science of traditional musical instruments for ceremonial and entertainment purposes. This project results in a challenge for students: to embed traditional Indigenous instruments into their school orchestra and ceremonies through the study of Indigenous STEAM practices of acoustics.
